4. Evaluations
KwikText provides a simple way to do a quick set of evaluations:
- Evaluate and compare any number of people, places, things.
- Add additional evaluation criteria on the fly.
- Override selections or add additional information to any selection.
- Evaluate as many topics as you want. Just add new ones in Subject box.
- Put results into a spreadsheet.
Here are the results of several evaluations converted into a spreadsheet:
Here's what KwikText looks like during one of the evaluations:
Here's t sample template used above. The template acts as an evaluation form, in this case, for video monitors:
Recommended Process for Doing Evaluations
Start a new project: I recommend that you start a new project for each group of evaluations.
Create a new template: To begin an evaluation, list the evaluation criteria as template categories. If you know what some of the alternatives are, list them.
Add commands: I added a few commands in the example:
- Model: Added "subject" command so model name is automatically inserted when I click on Model node
- Price: Added a blank reminder command so cursor automatically jumps to price and is ready to be filled in when you click on Price node
- Added "mark" commands so defaults can be automatically marked at once
- Added "show" commands so categories show up in reports
Enter data: Add a new name to the subject list. Press the AutoMark button to automatically mark the defaults. Click on a template node to add its content to the report. In some cases, you will have to add data. In this example, Price is the only place data needs to be added. You can override selections, add additional information to any selection, and add additional criteria or alternatives as you proceed. After you've completed the evaluations, you can send them to a spreadsheet.
Create a spreadsheet: Evaluations are easy to compare when put into a spreadsheet. You can sort on various categories to emphasize variations. In KwikText, click on Export|As Spreadsheet, then select the template you want to use as a spreadsheet. KwikText will collect all records that were created with that template. Then it will save the file in the records subdirectory of your project. You can open the file using Excel. Note that the file is saved as a text file with the extension .txt, so you will probably have to click on Excel's "Files of Type", and click on All Files (*.*) to have the file listed.
More Tips:
- List criteria (categories) first.
- List known alternatives for each category, so they can be selected by clicking.
- Add additional alternatives as they are discovered.
- Save in spreadsheet format and sort on various columns to compare.
