9. Web Research

KwikText contains a variety of features that help you do web research more effectively. It can help you categorize and recall bookmarks based on your current topic. It can act as a free-form database. Just put your results in a template, then organize them later. And it lets you save specific searches so you can retrieve them later. For example:

Save Search Engine Information

Store all search engine information in a single template. List each search engine, then for each search engine, include the following:
  1. Include a link to the web site. Click on a link to view the associated web page.
  2. Describe the types of searches this engine is most appropriate for. Use keywords you can remember. You can search the template for keywords to find all appropriate search engines.
  3. Include login names, passwords, and other access information if required.
  4. Include date that this information was last updated.
  5. Add personal comments about each site.
You can add or update the supplemental information at any time by editing the template. If you find yourself changing entries frequently, put a shortcut to the template on your desktop. That way you can add new material anytime, even when you're off line.

You can also group search engines by category to make selections even easier.

How to use it: Run KwikText along with your favorite browser. Select a search engine by either selecting directly from the template or using one of KwikText's search functions. When you click on a web link, KwikText loads the web page in your browser.

Save Search Terms

Store search terms in KwikText templates so you can repeat searches at different times or using different search engines. You can either store each search term as a separate entry, then combine them in different ways and paste them into your search engine from the Composition window, or store a each specific sequence of search terms as a separate entry and paste using the Content window.

Repeat Searches

Store actual searches (described on the next page), and repeat each search as often as required

Collect Results

Save results in template, collect and move to other locations later. KwikText contains special insertion preferences to make pasting information from websites easy.

Send Results to Spreadsheet

Save results in records, export to spreadsheet or table.
