10. Web Searches

You can set up searches, save the search criteria in KwikText, then repeat the searches whenever you want:
Note that you may not be able to capture the search criteria for all searches in all search engines.

Here's what several searches look like using KwikText. To repeat a search, click the appropriate node. KwikText will load the associated page in your browser.

This shows the search material in the KwikText Template Editor. To create each line, I set up a search using my browser, then ran it, and copied the URL into my template. I added the name of the search engine to help describe the search.

To add a search URL from your browser to a KwikText template:
  1. Open the KwikText template you use to store search information using the Template Editor. Leave the Template Editor open on your desktop and ready to insert text.
  2. If necessary, start your browser. Set up and run the search you want to capture.
  3. Click in the Location or Address box (where the name of the website is recorded). This initial click will select the entire name of the site, even if part of it extends beyond the screen.
  4. Press Ctrl-C to copy.
  5. Go back to the KwikText template editor. Click where you want the search information inserted, then press Ctrl-C to paste.
  6. Ideally, your Template Editor insert preferences are set to "Insert as Single Paragraph", "Insert With Brackets", and "Acquisition Number". That way your material will be inserted as a template node. If not, add square brackets around the newly inserted search text, and add a label.
  7. Click "Update" to update the template.
  8. Verify that the search works: Click on the search node in the KwikText Template Window.
