13. Bookmarks
Over time, bookmarks tend to accumulate. Finding the site you want becomes more and more difficult. Getting access to some sites requires remembering user names, identification codes and passwords.
KwikText provides a better way to manage bookmarks:
- Organize bookmarks by project, template, category.
- Include keywords and additional reference information with each bookmark.
- Include user names and passwords required to access sites.
- Bookmark sites, specific pages, even searches.
- Search for bookmarks by category, name, description, keyword.
- Click on a web address for instant access.
Here's an example. Web hosting services provide links to various portions of their site, most of which require a unique user name and password. If you add them to a template, you'll be able to identify and access appropriate sections easily:
The template looks like this (names given here are fictional):
Here are some recommendations:
- Create a single KwikText project for web tasks.
- Create a separate template for each bookmark category. For example, you might have one template for search engines, another for financial information.
- If you're doing research, create a separate template for each research topic. Include your research notes in the template. After you've generated a report, you can delete the template. Or keep it for other similar projects.
- If you perform other web tasks, create a separate template for each web task.
- Add identifying information for each bookmark. Tell why you've saved the bookmark, who recommended it, or how useful the site has been. If you need them, add keywords for future searches.
- Add user name and password for sites that require them, so you can click and paste into registration forms as needed.
- Make sure the "Browser" button is highlighted. Then when you click on a link, your browser will automatically load the page.
