13. Copy Text
To copy text from a web page or another document into a KwikText template:
- Highlight the text you want to copy. The easiest way to highlight text is to click on the start location, then hold down the shift key and click on the end location.
- Press Ctrl-C to copy the text. This puts the text into the system clipboard.
- Click in the template at the location you want the text inserted.
- Press Ctrl-V to insert the text.
You can change the format of inserted text by selecting options from the Inserts and Modifications menu items of the Template Editor window.
Under the Inserts menu item, you can select one of the following options:
- As Is: Material is inserted unchanged, that is, it is not made into single or multiple paragraphs. You can still modify the content as described below. This option will insert each line of text as a separate template node.
- Insert As Single Paragraph: Material is inserted as a single paragraph. In addition, you can modify the content as described below. Use this option when you want a large block of text to appear as a single template node.
- Insert As Multiple Paragraphs: Material is inserted as multiple paragraphs. In addition, you can modify the content as described below. Use this option when you want each paragraph of a large block of text to appear as one template node.
The difference between a line and a paragraph is this: A line contains a single linefeed, whereas a paragraph contains two linefeeds in a row. Paragraphs, therefore, appear to be separated by blank lines.
Under the Modifications menu item, you can change the formatting for each insert as follows:
- Despace: Extraneous leading and following spaces are removed. Use this option when you are inserting text from a web page or other document that is tabbed or indented.
- Insert With Brackets: Places inserted material in square brackets, so it shows up as node content. Usually used along with Acquisition Number.
- Acquisition Number: Adds a sequential acquisition number, as a label, before each block of inserted text.
Here's a typical example: Check Insert As Single Paragraph, Insert With Brackets and Acquisition Number. Copy some text from a website or another document. Click in the Template Editor window where you want the text inserted, usually the last line in the document. Press Ctrl-V. The text you selected is inserted as "000001 [xxx]", where xxx is the text you copied. Each additional insertion increments the acquisition number. You can go back later and change the numbers to something more meaningful.
Note:You can temporarily override the above settings by clicking on the Override Prefs button above the editor. Use this feature when you want to move text from one section of the template to another.
