3. Templates

You store blocks of text that you want to reuse in KwikText templates. Templates let you organize, find, retrieve, and reuse your text material.

The simplest possible template would be a list of words and phrases that you want to reuse. When you click on an item, the text is stored in memory, ready to be pasted into another document. Typing is unnecessary.

Of course, it's better to organize the material in your templates. One way to organize material is to classify it. To classify something, just place its title or topic above, and indent the lines beneath. Here's an example:

Another way to organize material is by ordering it. Organize items in your template in the order you expect to report them. A template for an interview would contain a list of questions in the order that you expect to ask them. Note that you wouldn't be required to ask questions in that order. The template is just a guide and reminder. You can still ask in any order you wish.

With an organized template, you can collect and paste: When you click, the text is collected and added to other items you've clicked, eventually generating a complete document. The resulting document is always organized in template order, not the order you inserted material.

It's useful to think of a template as a place to collect alternatives. When you are writing a template, add a topic, heading, title, question, or classification. Then list all possible alternatives (indented) beneath.

Each template can include as many topics as you wish. Each topic can include subtopics.

It's better to use multiple templates for some types of projects. A Bookmark project might have separate templates for different classes of sites: financial, business, search engines, etc.

Some types of projects, like surveys, require only one template. You use the same template for everything you survey.

Create a new template by simply giving it a name. Select an existing template by selecting its name from the template bar drop-down list.

Here's what the template looks like after you've finished creating it.
